ADMISSIONS

St Andrew's will consider applications for admission into courses from qualified students who wish to prepare themselves for the priesthood in the Orthodox Church, for teaching, or for other forms of active ministry within the Orthodox Church in Australia such as welfare positions and chaplaincy roles within universities, correctional service facilities, hospitals, nursing homes, and police services.

Persons wishing to pursue theological education for the sake of personal enrichment, or in order to discern a vocation, are also welcome to consider applying for admission into an appropriate course of study.

The following documentation is needed as part of the admissions process. Please contact the Registrar before completing any application.

Applications for admission to the undergraduate (seminarian) program should be received by 30 November. Applications for all graduate-level courses of study should normally be received by mid-December (for entry in Summer School), mid-January (for entry in Semester 1) or early June (for entry in Winter School or Semester 2). Late applications received after these dates may still be considered but only after consultation with the Registrar and at the discretion of St Andrew's.

Students within the Sydney College of Divinity (SCD) are welcome to indicate their interest in enrolment to the Registrar but require written cross-institutional clearance from their home Member Institution. Non-SCD students are welcome to indicate their interest in enrolment but require permission in writing from their home university or institution.

In terms of dormitory residency, St Andrew's provides single room accommodation to male undergraduate (seminarian) applicants. All interstate undergraduate (seminarian) students are required to take up residency within the college dormitory.

Successful applicants will receive a letter of offer and other relevant material. Those accepting their offer of placement are strongly recommended to read the following books in preparation for the commencement of their studies:

  • The Orthodox Study Bible, Thomas Nelson Publishers, 2008.
  • Ware, T. The Orthodox Church. New Edition. Penguin Books, 1993.
  • Ware, K. The Orthodox Way. SVS Press, 1993.
These books can be purchased from the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of Australia Book Centre
