Ordination of Bishop Elpidios of Kyaneon

College alumnus, His Grace Bishop-elect Elpidios (Karalis), was ordained to the holy episcopate as Bishop of Kyaneon in the Greek Orthodox Cathedral of the Annunciation of the Theotokos (Redfern, NSW) on today’s feast day of our fathers among the saints Athanasius and Cyril, archbishops of Alexandria. Presiding at the divine liturgy was His Eminence Archbishop Makarios of Australia who concelebrated together with Their Eminences Metropolitans Seraphim of Sebasteia, Ambrosios of Korea, Nektarios of Hong Kong, Konstantinos of Singapore, Myron of New Zealand, Ignatios of Madagascar, and Nathanael of Chicago, and Their Graces Bishops Ezekiel of Derbe, Paul of Christianoupolis, Iakovos of Miletoupolis, and Emilianos of Meloa.

His Grace Bishop Elpidios of Kyaneon will serve as the assistant bishop in Perth to His Eminence Archbishop Makarios of Australia and the archiepiscopal representative for Western Australia.

As the Very Reverend Archimandrite Fr Elpidios Karalis (Bachelor of Theology, 2004; Master of Arts specialising in pastoral ministry, 2005), he was unanimously elected Bishop of Kyaneon (Cyaneae, a town of ancient Lycia, southern Turkey) on 28 November 2019 by the Holy Synod of the Ecumenical Patriarchate of Constantinople, presided by His All Holiness Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew I. From late 2007 until his election he served as the parish priest of the Greek Orthodox Church of Saints Constantine and Helene in Perth.

His Grace Bishop Elpidios also holds a Bachelor of Business (Edith Cowen University, 1993) and a Graduate Diploma of Education (Secondary) (Australian Catholic University, 2006).
