End-of-Year Divine Liturgy for Byzantine Music Students

On Saturday 31 October 2026, St Andrew’s Greek Orthodox Theological College marked the close of its Byzantine Music academic year with the celebration of the Divine Liturgy, offering thanks to God, the giver of every good gift. A Memorial Service was also offered for the departed chanters who faithfully served our Archdiocese.

The choir brought together Byzantine Music students of St Andrew’s and those enrolled in the Byzantine Music School of Australia (NSW branch), under the guidance of their teachers, Dr Dimitri Koubaroulis and Mr Basilios Psilacos.

The Divine Liturgy was presided over by Rev’d Asterios Zouriakas, a graduate of St Andrew’s who also served at the analogion of the Archdiocesan Cathedral in Sydney. In his heartfelt reflection, he spoke of honouring our teachers and cherishing the journey of learning the sacred art of Byzantine music. This journey extends beyond reading notation, chanting and cultivating the voice: it embraces the theology of the sacred texts and their power to transform us, leading us towards sanctity and salvation.

As the academic year draws to a close, we give thanks to God for His gifts, to our teachers for their guidance, and to our students for their dedication. We prayerfully remember the departed chanters whose voices enriched the worship of our Church and whose example continues to inspire us.

May their memory be eternal.
