On Saturday 1 January, College alumnus, Nicholas Carmona Torres (BTh, 2021), was ordained to the holy diaconate by His Eminence Archbishop Makarios at the Greek Orthodox Church of St Nicholas (Marrickville, NSW). Deacon Nicholas was born and raised in Mexico before moving to Australia and eventually coming to Sydney for his theological studies these past few years. He has been appointed to serve the Greek Orthodox Church of the Archangel Michael in Crows Nest (NSW), alongside the parish priest and fellow alumni Fr Timothy Klintsaris. Deacon Nico and his wife, Elizabeth, are blessed with a daughter, Andrea.
Greek philosophy remains foundational to the history of ideas in the Western and Eastern traditions. It has shaped disciplines as diverse as theology, ethics, politics, science, and metaphysics. In particular, the writings of Plato, Aristotle, and the later Hellenistic and Byzantine philosophers have exercised enduring influence on Christian theology, especially in the Patristic and medieval Byzantine periods.
The Master of Greek Philosophy cultivates advanced capacity for critical engagement with the key figures, texts, and ideas of the ancient and Byzantine Greek philosophical tradition, preparing graduates to integrate these insights in further scholarly research, higher education, ministry, or other cultural and professional spheres.
