Clinical Pastoral Education

These programs offer male and female trainees the opportunity to learn from their own pastoral interactions with residents in an aged care setting using the action-reflection method of supervised pastoral training under the guidance and instruction of Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) accredited mentors.

In 2019, the CPE programs will incorporate supervised training at two health care sites:

5 March – 2 April: Introductory CPE (40 hours)
Location: Campbelltown Hospital, NSW
5 Tuesdays, 9:00am-3:00pm

7 May – 12 November: Basic CPE in Aged Care Ministry (400 hours)
Location: St Basil's Homes, Lakemba NSW
25 Tuesdays, 9:00am-3:00pm (except during NSW public school holiday periods)

Progression from the shorter introductory course into the full Basic CPE program is determined by the mentor/supervisor after the first 5-week period.

These programs may be undertaken as discrete qualifications on their own, issued by the NSW College of Clinical Pastoral Education Incorporated, or as accredited units with academic credit towards certain undergraduate and postgraduate courses of the Sydney College of Divinity.

Cross-institutional study for academic credit may also be available upon request.

1.   The size of the trainee group is normally limited to a maximum of eight persons.
