Clinical Pastoral Education

These programs offer male and female trainees the opportunity to learn from their own pastoral interactions with residents in an aged care setting using the action-reflection method of supervised pastoral training under the guidance and instruction of Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) accredited mentors.

In 2016, the CPE programs will incorporate supervised training at two health care sites:

23 February – 22 March: Introduction to Pastoral Ministry
Macquarie Psychiatric Hospital, North Ryde NSW
5 Tuesdays, 8:30am-3:00pm

3 May – 31 May: Introduction to Aged Care Ministry
St Basil's Homes, Lakemba NSW
5 Tuesdays, 9:00am-3:00pm

7 June – 8 November (excluding school holidays):
Continuation of Basic Unit of CPE in Aged Care Ministry
(includes both Introductory programs above)
St Basil's Homes, Lakemba NSW
20 Tuesdays, 9:00am-3:00pm

Progression from the shorter introductory courses into the full CPE program is determined by the mentor/supervisor after the first two 5-week periods.

These programs may be undertaken as discrete qualifications on their own, issued by the NSW College of Clinical Pastoral Education Incorporated, or as accredited units within the Bachelor of Theology, Diploma of Christian Studies, Associate Degree in Christian Thought and Practice, Graduate Diploma of Arts, Master of Arts or Master of Theology programs of the Sydney College of Divinity.


1.   The size of the trainee group is limited to a maximum of eight persons.

In 2016, the fee for Clinical Pastoral Education is $940 per semester for undergraduate students and $1520 per semester for postgraduate students. FEE-HELP is available (conditions apply).
